Crystal Lake or Tomahawk Ranch

Message from the President
Marty Martinez – Presiding
Here we are at the middle of May and our Arkansas River trip is over. The 1st trip of the year had great weather, good company and very slow fishing. I guess that’s why it’s called fishing. We did a little looking on the way back and stopped at the 63 ranch, the Tomahawk ranch, the Beach and look at Antero lake. This would make good one day trips this year.

We will be having our club picnic on June 22, 2019 so make your calendars. It will be at Lear O The Bear on Bear creek. The club will provide the Brats and Italian sausage, buns, corn on the cob, chips and drinks. It will start a noon and go until it over. You can fish in Bear creek so you can come early or stay late. I would like to get a head count at our next meeting so we can get the right amount of food. There will not be a monthly meeting in June.

I would like you to think about the last half of the year and what you would like to see the club activities should be. This is the input we need from the members.
Well enough out of me for now so….

Thanks for your attention so until next time…..tightlines

Your President,
Clyde “Marty” Martinez

Here is a video of the 5 flies for May 2019. Enjoy!
Our first multi-day trip of the New Year took us to Salida, CO. onto the Arkansas River.
My day, Friday, 27th of April, started out with me attending a doctor’s appointment. Leaving the doctor’s office I drove over to Larry Lyman’s house. Larry and I decided to car pool to Salida. I arrived at Larry’s house around 10:30 AM. After packing all of Larry’s gear into my truck we drove off around 11:30 AM.
As we were traveling West on I70 the traffic came to a standstill, up a head CDOT was still working on clearing up the mess left by the multi-car accident that occurred the day before.

We arrived in Salida Friday afternoon. We went looking for our cabin which we found and checked in. Larry and I were the first to arrive at the cabin, after getting situated we decided to go get a bite to eat. On returning to our abode, Jack Maxwell, Reg Powell and Bob Yagnich showed up. Apparently they had arrived earlier than us into Salida, but they went to check the river for some fly fishing spots.

The following day Marty Martinez and Sam Richardson arrived. We all left in groups to go seek our luck in the waters. The weather was pleasant for the most part but the wind came and went. The river was flowing great, lot of rafters in the water. That evening we all met, minus Marty and Sam, at the cabin and compared notes on our day of fly fishing. It seems all of us had the same kind of luck except for Bob Yagnich who claimed to have caught about six trout. That was about six more than the rest of caught combined.
Sunday Morning the gang separated again. We all went out on our own missions. After breakfast Larry wanted to go and try his luck at a lake he had spotted the day. I started driving in the direction he indicated and before we knew it, we were in Buena Vista. I think we missed the lake I told Larry, he said, “I think so.”
Rather than to go back we decided to head home.

Over all, the trip was great. Now I’m looking forward to the next one.

Juan Martinez

We are going to be having the group picnic this year on June 22nd from 12p-5p. It is going to be at Lair O’ The Bear and all are welcome to attend with their families. Those that wish to come early to fish are encouraged to do so. Parking will become scarce after 9am so it will be in your best interest to show up early.

Food for the event will be brats and Italian sausage with potato salad and corn as sides. There will be water and soda provided but the event is BYOB.
